Veterinary & Capture Services

The Kenya Wildlife Service’s Veterinary and Capture Services promotes healthy, viable wildlife populations across Kenya. Guided by the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act and the Veterinary Surgeons Act (Cap 366), we establish standards and coordinate wildlife veterinary care, disease surveillance, and animal welfare services.

Key Contributions to Conservation

  • Supply wildlife health data to national animal health systems.
  • Strengthen links between wildlife, livestock, and public health—especially to prevent and control zoonotic diseases.
  • Support operations involving capture, immobilization, and translocation.
  • Build capacity for veterinary teams in conservation areas.
