Vast, untamed, and iconic, Tsavo East National Park is Kenya’s largest national park and a premier destination for immersive wildlife safaris and outdoor adventure. The park unfolds as a sweeping semi-arid wilderness where dust-red elephants roam freely across open plains, acacia scrub, and volcanic landscapes.

The park’s scenery is shaped by the shimmering Galana River, whose emerald and azure waters cut through arid bushlands, and the imposing Yatta Plateau—the world’s longest lava flow—creating striking contrasts that make Tsavo East a natural stage for visual storytelling and filmmaking. Tsavo East National Park, established in April 1948, is Kenya’s largest and most iconic protected area, covering approximately 13,747 km². Together with Tsavo West National Park, it forms the extensive Tsavo Conservation Area, spanning around 22,000 km². The Park is located in Taita-Taveta County and features a semi-arid ecosystem that supports diverse wildlife populations. The Tsavo and Athi Rivers traverse the Park, providing critical water resources for both wildlife and vegetation.

By Road: Bachuma Gate 110km, Voi Gate 156km, Manyani Gate and 191km from Mombasa respectively all along the Mombasa – Nairobi highway.

Mtito Andei Gate is located 233 km south of Nairobi and 250km north of Mombasa on the Nairobi- Mombasa Road.

From Malindi, take the western tarmac road (C103) and access the park via Sala Gate.

By Air: Main Airstrips; Voi and Ithumba. Others airstrips include; Aruba, Satao, Sala, Sangayaya, Thabagunji, Lugard and Bachuma.

By Rail: Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Syokimau Nairobi Terminus to Voi Station or Miasenyi Station from Mombasa.

  1. You are in the wildlife’s home. Please respect their privacy and right of way.

  2. National parks are plastic-free. Single-use plastic is prohibited.

  3. General road rules apply. Car hooting or driving under the influence of alcohol are strictly prohibited.

  4. Adhere to park entry and exit times. Gates open at 6:00 AM and close at 6:00 PM, unless you are spending overnight.

  5. Move slowly and quietly. Animals can react dangerously if startled.

  6. Noise distracts wildlife. Use mobile phones and sound devices sparingly and only in designated areas.

  7. Remain in your vehicle unless in designated areas. Keep doors closed at all times.

  8. Observe the maximum speed limit of 40 km/h (25 mph). Speeding attracts penalties.

  9. Stay on established roads and trails. Off-road driving is strictly prohibited.

  10. View wildlife from a minimum distance of 20 meters.

  11. Feeding wildlife is prohibited, as it disrupts their diet and leads to human dependency.

  12. Carry out all trash to help keep the park clean.

  13. Do not leave campfires unattended while camping.

  14. Visitors enter the park at their own risk and Terms and conditions apply.
