Kenya Wildlife Service ensures that projects and activities affecting wildlife areas meet Kenya’s environmental laws and standards. Guided by the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act and the Environmental Management and Coordination Act, we provide environmental policy guidance for protected areas and coordinate ecological and feasibility assessments for proposed sanctuaries, conservancies and game farms. We also support the preparation and review of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and environmental audits, working closely with NEMA, county governments, communities and other agencies. Our role includes issuing technical advice on compliance, compiling lead-agency comments for NEMA decisions, tracking EIA projects in a dedicated database, and monitoring implementation of mitigation measures to reduce environmental risks and minimize litigation.
