Kenya Wildlife Service coordinates Kenya’s implementation of key wildlife-related Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) where KWS serves as the national implementing authority. This includes conventions and agreements such as CITES, CMS and its related instruments (including AEWA and key MoUs), the Ramsar Convention and the World Heritage Convention. We develop plans of work, strategies and guidelines, and ensure global resolutions and decisions are reflected in national conservation practice. KWS also works with partners on wider MEAs that affect wildlife (such as CBD and UNFCCC), supports international site designations, prepares national reports, and oversees compliance for wildlife research and access agreements through PIC, MAT and MTAs.
