Wildlife Conservation System in Kenya

Wildlife Conservation Framework

Kenya’s wildlife conservation system is a multi-layered framework combining state-managed protected areas, community-led conservancies, and robust legislative structures designed to balance biodiversity protection with the nation’s economic goal.
For effective management of wildlife in Kenya, we have segmented the country into eight (8) conservation areas as follows; Southern, Tsavo, Coast, Mountain, Eastern, Northern, Western and Central Rift Conservation Areas. These conservation areas is a devolved structure where we conserve biodiversity through protected area systems in form of National Parks, National Reserves and National Sanctuaries which covers 8.2% of Kenya’s land mass;
